's Violin Sonata No. 1 in F minor, Op 80, written between 1938 and 1946 (completed two years after Violin Sonata No. 2), is one of the darkest and most brooding of the composer's works.
The year after the violin concerto was completed Prokofiev returned to the Soviet Union with his family. He had some successes but was also, like so many of his colleagues, accused of anti-democratic formalism through the "Zhdanov Decree" in 1948. The sonata for solo violin, written the year before, can hardly have been the reason for the Violin Concerto No.2 in G minor, Op.63 by Sergei Prokofiev. 's Piano Sonata No. 2 in D Minor, Op. 14 (1912), is a sonata composed for solo piano. It was premiered on February 5, 1914 in Moscow with the composer performing. Prokofiev dedicated the work to his friend and fellow student at the St. Gabriel Prokofiev (born 6 January 1975) is a Russian-British composer, producer, DJ, and Artistic Director of the Nonclassical record label and nightclub. Co-commissioned by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, Stanford Live at Stanford University, and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the piece premiered at Smetana Hall in Prague, on June 21, 2017, with Sandy Cameron on violin and… Prokofiev won the Anton Rubinstein Prize for his pianistic accomplishments in a performance of the work before the Saint Petersburg Conservatory on 18 May 1914.
